Alviro joins county as captain

Johannesburg - Proteas' opening batsman Alviro Petersen has signed a contract to play for Welsh county Glamorgan in the England county championship.

"I am delighted to have signed for Glamorgan for the 2010/2011 County season," Petersen said in a statement on Tuesday.

"I am looking forward to making a significant difference where I can at the county and to further grow my cricketing CV."

Petersen is captain of the Highveld Lions franchise at the moment and will fulfil the same role for Glamorgan.

"It is also an honour to be given the captain's armband and hopefully I will help to bring some silverware to the SWALEC Stadium in Cardiff," he said.

Petersen will probably be available for the whole England summer as he is not involved in the Indian Premier League and the Proteas have no off-season commitments at present.
