Tokyo - Japan's football team is subject to a security curfew ahead of Saturday's friendly with 2010 Soccer World Cup hosts South Africa.

Japan's players have been instructed not to leave their hotel after dark while they are in South Africa for the match in Port Elizabeth.

"The players are free to go to the beach in front of the hotel, but we've told them not to go out after dark," Ichirota Fukushi, the team's media relations director, said.

South Africa has one of the worst crime rates in the world, putting the government under pressure to show that safety is improving ahead of next year's World Cup.

South Africa's murder rate - one of the world's highest - has dropped slightly, but the country faces a distressing rise in rapes, robberies and hijackings, according to South African police figures released in September.

Truly sad... it must give their country such a shocking impression of South Africa... I have spent a month in Japan..spent a week in the Japanese slums and there wasn't even anything to fear there! It has to be the safest country in the world.. It's sick thing that us South Africans have become so desensitized to think our crime levels are the norm.. Abdul, I think you are the one who needs to travel outside of SA!
@ minsk11/12/2009 12:32 PM
LOL - that's the best chirp on this site by far! I was also conned into that timeshare - and the bathrooms are not even en-suite! Crime is rampant in PE, govt must put a stop to it all. Imagine a poor Japanese soccer player being conned into playing scratch cards. Oh the horror!
Julius M11/12/2009 11:49 AM
Tell the Japs that they need not fear. I will rent them my bodyguards at R300k for the SWC month.

susan11/11/2009 10:43 PM
Very interesting to read all the different views, and typically…. it had to turn into a political issue… blame it on apartheid, blame it on the ANC, bla, bla, bla. Jan, you’ve summed it up best…. “dis leeu wereld die”. It is Africa! The Japs are taking it a bit too far though, but I suppose as the saying goes “eerder bang Jan as dooie Jan”.
nailed11/11/2009 10:37 PM
@ Abdul --> lol... just because South African's have become so used to things being stolen from them it doesn't mean that this should be the norm... not every where in the world do you have to worry 24/7 about personal safety and my possessions being stolen...
Maddof11/11/2009 10:01 PM
the japanese are scared of bafana and they want to have an excuse after they get asses whiped over the weekend i think its better they stay indoors or else we will be looking for our cats and dogs afetr they have left.South Africans are very hospitable people
Abdul11/11/2009 7:21 PM
Which SA do most of you live in? Which country is safe? Yes we don't live in safe enviroment but safety is each individuals responsibility. I've seen people using cell phones on the street where you can see it's not safe & then complain when their phones get stolen...we all need to be more street smart! For all the whiners, how many countries have you visited outside SA? As you will only appreciate our country then.
Mickey Muis11/11/2009 5:15 PM
forget about leaving their hotels after dark, they are in danger in their hotel rooms!!

I starting to believe the stats that say that the murder rate in Pakistan much lower than in South Africa. Of course the war in Iraq is nothing it still safer the South Africa. So is Nigeria, Serbia and Bosnia. Serbian working in South Africa find this country safer and better. Maybe Serbia is not in Europe. These are the facts according to the stats. What a bunch of hogwash

Some people are talking nonsense here and hense they do not know what they are talking about.. well well if the Japanese feels like they are not safe then that is their proplem coz South Africa is not that bad..Did u hear anyone during confed that was mugged? our thugs also respect this kind of functions and other people of course...Stop blaming our government for something that they are trying hard to thrash..As for other idiots puting Malema in this topic then u are out of order and Malema did not send people to go and still as he is also worried about the situation...AS FOR MY PRESIDENT I AM TELLING YOU TO BACK OFF COZ I WILL KILL FOR HIM..Our president adressed issues around crime in a frank manner where he even considered to amend section 49 so that this thugs can be killed..I rest my case now.... Ke saka setlogolo sa batswetla

Holy smoke, after reading this I have just cancelled my trip to SA for 2010, There are a group of about 25 that have now cancelled & we will watch on TV & go on holiday to Bali.
NCT11/11/2009 3:24 PM
For all of you who has a problem with people commenting on the extremely high crime rate in SA - please feel free to go and lie to yourself somewhere else. Crime is a reality in SA. Your pathetic "live with it or immigrate" attitudes are making it worse. We have loads of problems in this country. Most of which is caused by corrupt or incapable government. Without complaints from its citizens, how are we suppose to get the government to do what we tell them? Other than dancing around like the idiots who think violent protests solves problems, not realizing it actually causes even more problems for our country. Grow up. Crime IS a problem in our country. Retards who ignore this fact, makes it worse.
Roland11/11/2009 3:10 PM
Not so safe - you better believe it. Ask some of the beachfront hotels. A few years back I went to a Durban beach front hotel. On Saturday evening I wanted to buy a Lotto ticket at the shop about 100m from the hotel. The hotel front doors were "locked" at 7pm and the security guard walked me to the Lotto outlet and walked me back - he said that a "whitey" should not go out on his own after dark (7pm!). Don't like to be negative about SA, but in the "apartheid" days, this was not as much a problem as it is today.
Black Panda11/11/2009 2:50 PM
I dont need Japan for me to be a proudly South African. Let them go. otherwise suicide doesnt cost that much, "If you hate Mzansi" Tough!!!! Lol...................................
Len van Heerden11/11/2009 2:35 PM
I see an opportunity here. Let them report how bad the crime is, and these guys can quake in their boots during the world cup, and then we can beat the crap out of them on the field
Thembalabantubonke11/11/2009 2:33 PM
Poor Japanese. One has to feel sorry for them. They must be the only sports team to ever visited South Africa. Oddly enough, we have hosted events where people were not prevented from going out at night, provided they taken the necessary precautions one would be expected to take in Osaka and Tokyo. We had a Cricket Tournament recently in Johannesburg and Pretoria. We had the Tri-Nations and Super 14, but smehow when soccer comes around, there is always an issue about security (not because of something that has happened) rather more of a stupid fear by idiots. Why did the Japs even agree to come to South Africa if they did not feel safe?
SA 4 LIFE11/11/2009 2:28 PM
Its a pity that most people who have commented are South Africans. What happened to patriotism and optimism. People like Ice are saying "Facts are Facts, i see the world cup as a blessing in disguise, people will be raped, mugged and even killed next year, this will be in world news and the whole world will see what is going on in SA", Ice are you planning on commiting any of these crimes or you are mobilising people who will do them for you? I love my country and that is why I have applied to be one of the volunteers next year. I will take leave from my job just to make sure that the World Cup becomes a success. After all if we as South Africans are not proud about country, who will? Irrespective of the difficulties who have to deal with on the daily basis we still have to make sure that our country prospers. We can not accept the kind of behaviour that some of our people have but we also need to deal with the realities that we face in solidarity. We can never succeed if we have people who are pessimistic about optimistism that some of our people have in our country. We as a nation need to stand up and be count so that we can make this country better than it is now for ourself and the future of our children. I thank you!!!

IT IS ABOUT RACE11/11/2009 1:30 PM
And the English Cricket team is coming to SA very soon and there is no bitching about their security?!? Why? Is it because in SA, those who like Soccer are BLACK and those who like Cricket and rugby are WHITE? YES IT IS ABOUT RACE! Now, go on and call me all sorts of names for pointing out the truth.

BS I just read they have not been confined to their rooms They have been to training grounds All the negative comments are a good reflection of ourselves.LOL

Ridiculous! I stay in PE. They are probally staying at the Garden Court Hotel at the beachfront, where they are probally allowed to chill at Kings beach, which in its own is pretty dangerous AT NIGHT yes, because of the dunes providing lurking places, provided you go there ALONE! I am a white male, 22 years old, going out every weekend to clubs, pubs, all sorts of public places, gambling at the casino etc etc with my friends and groups of people and have never been in any dangerous situation or confronted with crime. Obviously SA is not totally safe, but if you go within groups, there is no danger to where the high end entertainment of PE is situated. Same as if you were in any major city around the world! So the Japanese are totally blowing this out of preportion and the worlds media is having a field day, not knowing how it is in PE or SA themselves! Stupid and uninformed!

Enough of this rubbish. People must stop talking nonsense. How many rugby games do we have a year including, Tri-Nations, Super 14 & Curie Cup and not once did any of the Rugby Teams report incidents such as this. The only incident we had was during the Cricket games and some guys wanted to pay for sex and got what the bargained for. We understand that crime is escalating and is getting more violent, but SA is not the only one. Recently on CNN they dedicated a whole week to raising crime awareness in Chicago as it was spiralling out of control. This should be not be the reason for SA to accept that crime is a problem, but rather the plan to combat senseless killings. Communities need to work together in creating forums that will discuss and put together action plans. Police Intelligence needs to be beefed up. We need to see more cases being closed because of the evidence provided by COPS and not because the paperwork has disappeared. For all White Friends, I know for sure that we have a lot of incompetent policeman and women in the force, but you also need to take responsibility and stop blaming the Black Government. Work with them, engage them and your persistance will pay off one day. We're country that has over 20% of Unemployment, crime is bound to increase. We're dealing with large numbers on illiteracy which was perpertuated by the White government, so note that your fore fathers had something to do with the current situation and it'll take many more decades before the problem is solved.

Look guys - PE is not so bad. Rush traffic lasts for 20 minutes. Pity you poor guys who are stuck in traffic for 4 hours a day!! I think this Japan issue is an over-reaction by the press. BTW, are Japan also playing Bafana in Durban? Why the reference to that place in the article? No matter where you are in the world, as a visitor you should take precautions. It is simply a case of being aware of your surroundings.

Why didn't they just bring some ninja warrior body guards?

There's nothing wrong with PE...the most friendly city in SA! Very hospitable people...these japs should ask their chinese lineage who won not long ago won a court battle to be classified as coloreds...remember huh???Or maybe they should go watch some karate movies and beef up their skills. Why do I get their is something sinister about them playing in PE? AAAH it can only be those who lost the showpiece to host the game in Jhb and Durbs...sore loosers...travel for a change maybe you'll learn something about the country for change huh?

Poke a joke at Malema - you're a racist. Poke a joke at ANC - you're a racist. Comment anout the fact that Caster really really looks like a dude - you're a racist (wonder if Ju-Ju would like to go on a date with her?) Comment on crime - you're a racist. My fave. passtime was Bush (G.W.) bashing. I'm white, so is he. How's that racist? Do dof things and you'll get laughed at or criticized, period. Whether you're Black, white, pink, grey, yellow, or otherwise. Time to stop mollycoddling this nation and face the facts. A student is no longer that, but a "learner" Agga Shem.. That while they dance and break equipment during protests etc.. etc... Time to call a spade a shovel and stop babying politicians and those who call the race card when critisized. I walk down the main streets of Rio at midnight and feel safer than in Govan Mbeki after 8 at night. Ditto Dar es-Salaam, Ditto New York, Ditto London. Face the truth! Japan's reaction is understandable, but , like we do, and as as they experience the City and indeed the country, they'll get to know where (and when) they should roam around.
Stevo11/11/2009 11:33 AM
Haha....perhaps they are scared of the wind in PE! Have you seen some of those hairdos that the Japanese players are sporting!
Sean11/11/2009 11:33 AM
So the mighty Nippon Samurai are afraid to come out and play in little PE, LOL, My family and I frequently holiday in PE and Jef’s I feel safer there than in Cape Town where I live. Our media always putting us down, I wonder if the same would happen in Brazil there crime rate is as high as ours if not higher. I don’t condone crime and it is a serious issue in SA but we must stop putting ourselves down, yes we need to improve on our safety be bloody hell, this perception is the pits they don’t even know us. I blame the media you are just as bad as the criminals.

Apartheid Government and the current ANC have a hand in crime we have but we as South africans black and white or what ever colour you regard yourself. The anc government inhereted the problem from you guys.but that is not my point.Simple we as south africans have a hand in allowing this to be were it is.Police are not everywhere but we people see this things happen to our fellow human beings and we just ignore everything.NO its white person they deserve it,its Black on Black crime it does'nt affect me.The moment you see wrong thing and ignore it just know next time it will be you.If you don't do something about it.

i think this is Ridiculous! this is not the first time SA has ever hosted an international event! Rugby, cricket etc and most recently we has the whole of India for the cricket and all of a sudden players are told to stay in doors? In PE of all places? please use your heads it doesnt matter where u are in the world u still need to use common sense as a tourist, Its not just SA!!!
Madness!11/11/2009 11:20 AM
This is utter madness! The Japs are crazy, & you guys talking crap about our country are worse! Every year we have the Super 14 and Tri Nations teams visiting us from Oz and NZ. We have cricket teams touring every year too! What about the Confed Cup Football teams! We've hosted HIGHLY successful Rugby and Cricket world cups!!! Where does this shyte come from now? All you pessimists should leave this country and stop complaining. And all you foriegners, there is crime in your country too! The only place I was ever physically attacked, was in Birmingham... & that was on the High Street!!!
Confused11/11/2009 11:18 AM
I dont understand the fact that thousands of people in South Africa are being injured and murdered in on a daily basis due to violent crimes and the best that people can do is blame our ancestors about it. I thought that crap has been put behind us? I think that even though we deny it there are still a bunch of racists in this country. By the way I agree with Renny............
Craig11/11/2009 11:15 AM
Maybe this is the only way that Bafana Bafana can win, keep the opposition in the hotel! There is very little violent crime in PE unless you visit Motherwell, Walmer Township and a few other spots. This report is hilarious but sad that this is the perception out there...
Bonny11/11/2009 11:15 AM
How embarrassing for SA... Imagine how many poor little football players will have cabin fever next year :-)
TA11/11/2009 11:14 AM
it is amazing how many bitter people we have in this country, with no positive thing to contribute to the country. any chance they get is to complain, but if you can ask what they are doing to solve the problem that they complain about you till find non. The world cup will never go to Australia, they have to put bid for it, not to be opportunistic, without proving to FIFA in compiting with other country and win the Bid. Its just shows how Australian are opportunistic for those that want the world cup to go to Australia. Work and earn the right to host. I am proud SA earned the right to host it, and I am contributing in my small way to solve the problem we have in this country like any other people in their own country.

Maka11/11/2009 11:10 AM
PE is a safe place. Safer than Durban, CT, and Jo'burg. It is not called the friendly city for nothing. It's disconcerting to hear so much negativity about one's country. THe Japanese footballers are not the first international players to tour PE. We had the IPL in April. Le Bleus have been to PE. Oz cricket and many other national teams have been to PE and none of them have ever reported a serious crime inflicted. Instead a South African who found R 400 000 in a Garden Court Hotel Room Safe returned to the money to the manager and Punjab team was delighted. Really, this negativity has to stop.
John11/11/2009 11:07 AM

Mdu11/11/2009 11:06 AM

Ghwappie @ Anti-Rennie11/11/2009 11:06 AM

Anti-Anti-Renny11/11/2009 11:05 AM
Anti-Renny your comments are a joke and based on ignorance, the reality is that the ANC led South Africa is unsafe for blacks as much as it is unsafe for people of other race. The reality is that people like yourself and your mate Julius creates division with your attitude rather than promote harmony and there is no place in SA for this attitude. Face the facts that the old SA was not led by ALL white people but by a minority so rather extend your anger at the people responsible than the white race as a whole. SA is a dangerous place and everybody has a right to be cautious because there are far too many people who are only interested in self preservation and personal gain. Don’t blame apartheid when it is a known fact that the majority of modern day criminals were of an age that they were not affected by apartheid, Your racist attitude has no place in SA, it is the same attitude you dispise from the OLD SA, loose the chip on your shoulder and go make freinds based on common ground rather than colour, I have and it works.
sc1pio11/11/2009 11:04 AM
Anti renny, ur such an idiot. It was your own brothers who slaughtered you during apartheid, not the whites, they oppressed you and sometimes beat you up if you committed crimes against the apartheid government (which was wrong) but my friend, your own brothers raped your woman in the townships etc etc,. And It hasn't changed, In fact it got worse! So stop looking back at apartheid. Things were better than in terms of safety and security for all south africans!! There's always some good in a lot of bad. Even your big comrade President Zuma said so. So shut your trap
The cheeze moved...11/11/2009 11:02 AM
Port Elizabeth is still OK, when they get to Jo'burg they must still run the gauntlet from OR Tambo to the Hotel car park, and from there into the actual Hotel ..... good luck to them and my advice, make yourselves even smaller than you are to throw off the Hijackers/Murderers/Trigger Happy Cops/Taxi drivers and Muggers. If you survive all that, prepare to get ripped off when you check out by Hotel 2010 rates.
Gaz11/11/2009 10:59 AM
I think the real reason the Japs have been asked to stay in their rooms is for fear they might start eating all the local domestic Dogs and Cats.... Shoo - Or the wind might get them? Or....there are so many pensioners in PE one of them might get attacked by an irate granny with her walker.

James11/11/2009 10:57 AM
@anti-remmy - how pathetic. 2 wrongs don't make it a right. Your argument is symptomatic of our situation and will never lead to any improvements. So instead of looking to improve South Africa, you blame it on the past. I cannot wait for your generation to die off and leave the youngsters of all races to want a better South Africa.

we cannot deny that there is crime in our country , but I think what they doing(foreign media) is not right about our country , I mean , I was born 40 yrs ago in this country, I have never experience such dramatic high level of crime, yes there's crime I agree !.It goes to show that these people don't believe that " Africans"we can host this WC successfull.!!! Well ! we will show you !!!. Confed !!! Successfull !! Afcon 96 Succesfull !!! the man11/11/2009 10:52 AM
this is nonsense. The japanese authorities should be shamed of themselves, PE is a reasonable safe city why the fuss. PE is just known for its high rape and these japanese players are all men so they have nothing to worry about. i concede that crime is a problem in this country and this is because of the weak president we have. The alliance will not stand for this incompetence much longer.
Steven11/11/2009 10:52 AM
After moving to JHB from the UK 27 years ago and then transfering to Port Elizabeth 4 months ago, I am still to be a victim of a "serious" crime. I don't walk the streets alone at night but I wouldn't back in Manchester either. I don't park my car down out-of-sight ally's but nor would I in Cambridge. I truly believe that SA's worst enemy are journalists who write about "statistics" but have never visited the place personally, they should stick to writing about their home towns and leave us and our visitors alone...
TheMonk11/11/2009 10:51 AM
We do have a lot of crime in SA. We are actually amongst the highest in the world. But this is really overdoing it. We all go out everyday; to eat, drink, work, shop or whatever. Somebody has really lost the plot here.
Tarras Bulba @ anti-Renny11/11/2009 10:49 AM
I wanna put up a poll: "Was it legal for a white person to kill a person of colour during the Apartheid years." 1. Yes 2. No Of course, it was despicable, but you should also remember that political entities capitalise on fear. And we didn't have a KKK policy. The flavour of racism in South Africa is unique: it's termed paternal racism. Read up on the Fagan commission. It was established before the 1948 elections that racial segregation is idiotic and will lead to disaster. However, the then NP government exploited the fear of white people with the Sauer (I think) commission. HF Verwoerd was murdered on the day he was supposed to introduce "relaxed" policies. Makes you wonder, doesn't it? Race is a tool masqueraded as the basis for an ideal and not restricted to merely skin colour. Xenophobia is also racism, do you know that? How many black people died at the hands of black people before the so-called "evil" colonialist set foot on the continent. If I could go back into time ... I'll tell them not to even TOUCH Africa . . . I really would. Your mentality will never change if you cling onto current "revolutionary" ideals that have been proven to lead to disaster.
Tazz11/11/2009 10:48 AM
I feel sorry for whites living in SA.For how long will you live with fear everyday, even with 24 hrs security in your golf estates still you have fear.being protected by the same Black man you fear so much.LOL you are a laughing stock of the world. The moments you realize that we are all equal and normal and start living normal life you will live in your world of fear. Crime at the moment is high I admit but what good will it do to Blame ANC government every time.Yes crime is high and people die every day,but not because of crime.Pre 94 our people were killed everyday but that is all in the past we forget easily right.I won't blame the past but inequality was greated by you guys and look what effects it has on the country now let forget it all in the past. But let remember our past will affect us untill we die.

Isnt it weird how "Anti-renny" immediatelt assumed renny's comment to be racial. Not all criticisms against the ANC are racist, and it is racist in itself to think that! Besides, the truth hurts, we have one of the highest crime and murder rates in the world, and who is too blame but government? I do however feel that the japs deciding to stay in their rooms is a gross overreaction.
Peet11/11/2009 10:46 AM
@ AntI-Renny. Good for you, make it a race issue again!

Jez11/11/2009 10:45 AM
@Anti-Renny : That is the most insipid thing I have heard today. I feel sorry for you.
Ice11/11/2009 10:45 AM
Facts are Facts, i see the world cup as a blessing in disguise, people will be raped, mugged and even killed next year, this will be in world news and the whole world will see what is going on in SA, they will see its not so shiney as our beloved ANC potrays. Hopefully the countries who forced us out of apartheid, will this time assist again to better the country.......go you criminals, make us proud in 2010,
Patrick11/11/2009 10:45 AM
Enough tourists get mugged in 'popular' areas along the PE beach front to warrant this warning. A sad indictment of the times we live in and a Nelson Mandela Metropole Council too busy scrambling to stay on the gravy train than provide any form of service to PE residents let alone tourists!
Martin11/11/2009 10:45 AM
What do you expect, this is Africa afterall. It's in the DNA all in the DNA.

if its not germany, its japan, whoever is doing this to damage this country,is a moron, jack**s,we had a successful confed cup,but we never heard none of this morons complementing, now they are trying by all means to stop soccer fans who are coming to watch WC,your plans are not going to work,we will host a successful WC you never saw in your life,
Ridiculous11/11/2009 10:42 AM
This is utter nonsense, these guys are probably the safest people in PE now that they are here because most people in this city would not let anyone take advantage of people visiting PE on their watch. The Journalists need to be careful of what they write sometimes, it's not just about you getting the recognition you're after, SA will take forever to become a better society because of the nonsense, you idiots write. You hardly read anything bad about these other countries, but no! open a South African news paper and crime is the first word you see.
Nelis11/11/2009 10:42 AM
@Jack. It is all about perception. This sends a negative image accross the globe no matter what you and I think and know. That is the bottom line; we are seen as a crime ridden country that is a fact.
Jez11/11/2009 10:40 AM
Wake up Jack! It IS that bad! Let's plonk your @ss somewhere in the middle of some 3rd world city where they don't speak your language and see if you don't wind up in a dodgy part. Most tourists don't even get to the hotel before being robbed. The criminals pull them off just outside the airport!
kayG11/11/2009 10:40 AM
we were let to believe that all and i mean all Chinese/Kapanes/Koreanes (lol) can do martial arts. There was a time when i thought we should hire a couple of Jet Lees and Jackie Chans the crime rate would take a deep. Are you now telling me, even they are scare of the so called criminals on the streets!! The sad trueth:-(
Tso11/11/2009 10:37 AM
Instill fear in everyone coming to SA,It is good for tourism.Funny enough I go every where is SA and walk freely everytime.Live your life in fear for ever and see if you can enjoy this life.Funny a White british Comedian was here in SA walking in JHB CBD freely. What is Wrong with you people?
Anti-Renny11/11/2009 10:34 AM
Renny, I should remind u that we(ANC, Blacks) didn't also feel safe during ur regime and SA was also a blackman slaughter house but it just that ur Regime did not discose such issues... I also don't feel safe around DA, VF and White people...
Jordan11/11/2009 10:34 AM
I wonder what their response is going to be if they are asked to go into an informal settelment to teach some kids nifty soccer tricks? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...this is so funny...can anyone remember the cricket team that was robbed right in their hotel??? How hilarious was that! Sooner or later, they will come to realize it's not save in SA PERIOD!
tebogo11/11/2009 10:32 AM
Who can argue with crime and murder stats? Hope we beef up security with quality highly trained personel and not numbers as at present.
mokhaise11/11/2009 10:30 AM
i think there is nothing to be scared of,so if countries become scared of our country then the world cup is not going to be thrilling because they wont even want to go for training but only to go to the matches, and that will evantually lead to boring games and boring games leads to low support and low support will even make the economic reccesion even worse. so the best tip free advice the police must tour guide the players to see our beautiful country
Johan Britz11/11/2009 10:29 AM
Cycles past the Bafana and Japan team busses this morning in the Hotel that they are staying in. I wasn't aware that we had a crime problem in ANCzania?
Lamps_811/11/2009 10:29 AM
Maybe they should phone Julius and ask if they can lend his R300 000 a month security for this week???? South Africa is one Dangerous effing Joke! I don't blame the Japs
Smanga Zulu11/11/2009 10:27 AM
This is just nonsense! Screw Reuters!
LJE11/11/2009 10:27 AM
HAHA! So! The secret is finally out!!! Wonder how they'll try to spin this one. Hehehe
ron11/11/2009 10:21 AM
Hmmm and some of our clowns in power say crime is not out of control - the rest of the world sees it like it is.
Jack11/11/2009 10:21 AM
Okay okay, I know SA has one of the highest crime rates in the world, BUT come on?! It's not as if we're all running for our lives while random thieves are attacking us, this is South Africa, not some wasteland from a Mad Max movie. =? I've spent entire days in P.E. and I haven't been attacked once, it's really not as bad as the International Community make it out to be. Having said that I think some of these tourists are semi- to moderately retarded as they wander off to some ridiculous places & are just asking to get nipped! Advising a football team to stay in their hotel rooms are just idiotic and actually a slap in the face though. Don't blame the crime rate if you're daft enough to wander off into the lower parts of a city, dark alleys or some informal settlements in certain parts of the country where drugs & gangs are the order of the day...as jy dom is moet jy K*K!
anon11/11/2009 10:20 AM
We can expect to see more of this next year
renny 11/11/2009 10:20 AM
Thank you ANC government for creating this unsafe environment If you guys cant do the job why not let another party try Reading this article makes me very un-proud to be SA
