Stephen NellCape Town – English club Bath are set to launch an attempt to trump the Western Force in their bid for the services of Springbok flyhalf Peter Grant.
A reliable source has indicted that Bath has targeted Grant for a two-year contract after Butch James recently injured his knee.
“Bath have put out feelers to Peter,” an informed source told Sport24.
Grant’s contract with Western Province expires at the end of the Currie Cup.
Australia’s Western Force and French club Racing Metro have already made offers for Grant.
The Force appear to be WP’s biggest opponent if the Capetonians aim to keep their utility back. Grant’s parents now live in Perth.
Should Grant sign for the Force, he will still be allowed to play for any other side in the second half of the year. That means he can still qualify to play for the Springboks through involvement in the Currie Cup.
Australia do not have a provincial competition similar to the ones in South Africa and New Zealand.
Grant is apparently still keen to play Tests for South Africa and that might be a good enough reason for him to stay in the Cape.
