Wanted man (Gallo)

Stephen Nell

Cape Town – English club Bath are set to launch an attempt to trump the Western Force in their bid for the services of Springbok flyhalf Peter Grant.

A reliable source has indicted that Bath has targeted Grant for a two-year contract after Butch James recently injured his knee.

“Bath have put out feelers to Peter,” an informed source told Sport24.

Grant’s contract with Western Province expires at the end of the Currie Cup.

Australia’s Western Force and French club Racing Metro have already made offers for Grant.

The Force appear to be WP’s biggest opponent if the Capetonians aim to keep their utility back. Grant’s parents now live in Perth.

Should Grant sign for the Force, he will still be allowed to play for any other side in the second half of the year. That means he can still qualify to play for the Springboks through involvement in the Currie Cup.

Australia do not have a provincial competition similar to the ones in South Africa and New Zealand.

Grant is apparently still keen to play Tests for South Africa and that might be a good enough reason for him to stay in the Cape.

I have heard that Butch James rates . Butch is having his knee reconstructed yet again and may not come back from this one, so Bath have a vacancy with the cash to fill it. Michael Claassens and Pieter Dixon both play there, too, so did Fleckie, so Bath'll have good company and references, if not the weather for grant if he goes there (which I doubt he will).

Hey Cliff Bradley, chill out man. There's nothing wrong with being anonymous. Peace. Bet you were a legend in your day.

I by no means am a stormers supporter, but when Grant starts at flyhalf, their entire backline seems to fire on all cylinders. He easily is the best flyhalf in the country at the moment followed closely by a quietly performing Morne Steyn. Come on Peter Div, stop your stupidity with Ruan at 10 and John Smit at 3! A Beast, Smit, Jannie Du Plessis front row will destroy the Lions up front! Pienaar and Grant as the Halfback combo will make sure that the backline is always going forward, they both have amazing kicking abilities. Now, we must just pray that JdV and Fourie are gonna be fit to take on the Lions...

Take him - you can take the whole Stormers team because they are crap.

@Jannie: Good call, might be interesting combo... Pienaar, Grant, JdV, Fourie, and Steyn ( and we enough quality wings to pick from)

Peter should come to Australia. It's better for him to play in a team where his talent will be appreciated. Who wants to play for the proteas in any case? Not that he will be chosen. Unless the proteas get a coach that actually know something about rugby.

Grant, common over to Aus. We'll make better use of you here.

The selectors (Pieter de Villiers) must wake up - Peter Grant is by far the best flyhalf in SA - and Ruaan Pienaar the best scrumhalf.
