NZ won't underestimate France

Marcoussis - France hooker William Servat says New Zealand paid the price for underestimating his team the last time the sides met and will be punished if they make the same mistake again in Saturday's Test match.

Both teams are in fine form. New Zealand beat England 19-6 at Twickenham on Saturday, and the French crushed Samoa 43-5 after a convincing 20-13 win against South Africa the previous week.

Servat was part of the France team that stunned New Zealand 27-22 in June and said that the All Blacks took his team lightly before the game - at their peril.

"When we were in New Zealand they put their Walkman headphones on and were smiling a bit. I'm not sure they were smiling after playing against us," Servat said Monday. "With regards to that, it will really set the tempo for the match (on Saturday)."

New Zealand narrowly won June's second Test in Wellington 14-10. Servat is sure the All Blacks will have taken note of France's victory over South Africa and will show no complacency at Marseille's Stade Velodrome.

"I don't know if it will make them stop and think, but it will prepare them, that's for sure," Servat said. "We played well against the South Africans, so I think the New Zealanders will respect us by preparing as well as possible."

Because France stood up to the full force of the Springboks' scrum in Toulouse, Servat thinks there is little left to fear - even from New Zealand.

"It was a great moment of joy, because people thought we would get smashed," Servat said at France's Marcoussis training camp. "When we played South Africa, (Bakkies) Botha tried to destroy us, and we wanted to prove to him that we could stand up to it. I think the All Blacks have enough pride not to let themselves be pushed around on Saturday."

Servat thinks South Africa also may have underestimated the French prior to their loss in Toulouse earlier this month.

"We arrived in New Zealand 15 days before the match, the South Africans arrived two days before the match and ate at the Jigo (restaurant) in Toulouse on Wednesday night," Servat said. "They came out of the Tri-Series having won everything, and while it wasn't a formality to beat France, they prepared for the match a little differently. There was a bit of rain on Wednesday night and they didn't train ... it fed our hunger in the dressing rooms."

AB's better beware, I bet they are currently struggling with that all too familiar uneasy sinking feeling when it comes to the French... May the best team on the day win... Springboks Uber Alles!!

@All Black - please, you sound like these Bok supporters! Stick to the All Black code - be humble, respect your opponent and believe you will have to battle for the full 80 mins. Don't talk before the game!! @AB4Life - agree with you re lethargic performances... I think it's due to a few factors: the Brits play ugly but seem to be a bit better these days, the rules make a very open game difficult, AB's lack a bit of confidence and risking less, injuries and non-availability of key players, focus is on building cohesion and confidence; and my biggest gripe...sitting on a lead! Here they like to peg us against the Boks, but this is the biggest duel for the All Blacks - playing France in France!! Go look at the history! The game might disappoint, but the tension is gonna be hectic!! Enjoy...go Black, go All Blacks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Depending on which French team shows up on the day...they can take the AB out. France are to the AB what cricket is to SA...a thorn in the side.

@AB 4 Life, look at the bigger picture. I am quite sure Graham Henry and his assistant coaches are working towards 2011 for the World Cup. There's been a marked improvement in the game of the All Blacks, since the Tri-Nations. Their line-outs are much improved, they boost one of the best defence record in Test rugby - not leaked a single try in more than seven Northern Hemisphere Test games. Against Wales they were good, but not great. Italy played very negative rugby and against England they opened up the game, but could not quite finish. During the Tri-Nations they showed glimpses of their brilliance, but their discipline at the breakdown cost them dearly during the match in Durban. I feel much more comfortable, since Henry's got a more settled squad compare with two years ago. They are surely on the up and there is no way the French would beat them. To much at stake - unbeaten record in Europe and the No.1 World Ranking!!

Hey All Black, never ever underestimate an opponent, especially when the AB's are playing lacklustre rugby. We're only just winning matches, unconvincingly I might add. Until we get back to the devastating, demolishing form that had all rugby nations shivering in their boots, we're not worthy of beating top flight rugby nations just yet. I love the fact that we're winning but I do watch every week with the hope that great form will return. And I have to say that so far, it's been disappointing.
