Three former Springbok captains were at the 2009 Cape Town 10's rugby tournament: Corne Krige, Bob Skinstad and Andre Vos.

Cape Town - Cape Town Tens fans will be amongst the first folks to catch a glimpse of the Cape Town Stadium in all its glory when the Cape Town Stadium Rugby Festival takes place in conjunction with the 2010 Tens.

With the Stormers set to play a Super 14 warm-up match against Boland at the Cape Town Stadium - one of South Africa's nine 2010 venues - on Saturday, February 6, it was announced on Tuesday that the Cape Town Tens organising committee would now also be hosting a Tens festival-type match as a curtain-raiser to that clash.

An SA Legends selection will go head-to-head with an International Legends team as the likes of Robbie Fleck and Bob Skinstad - the tournament hosts of the Castle Lager Cape Town Tens - get an opportunity to show off their ten-a-side skills, and the intricacies of this great format of rugby, in front of some 40,000 rugby supporters - the first time the oval ball will take to the Cape Town Stadium.

As a result, the Castle Lager Cape Town Tens has adjusted its weekend schedule accordingly, which will allow all CT Tens players and fans at Hamilton RFC to make the walk across to the recently-completed - and breathtaking - Cape Town Stadium and enjoy a truly historic moment; for rugby and, indeed, for the City of Cape Town ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Afterwards, and once they have enjoyed two high-quality matches - and all that the Cape Town Stadium has to offer - the Castle Lager Cape Town Tens fans will return to Hamilton's for more Tens action... and, of course, some more fun in the beer tent.

Former Springbok captain Morné du Plessis, the Executive Chair of the Sail de Stade Operating Company (the stadium's management company), told capetowntens.com: "The Cape Town Tens is a big weekend in itself, so to incorporate it with our festival is amazing.

"The crowd will love watching those big names in action, playing Tens, plus we've got loads planned in terms of other entertainment on offer and refreshments on sale... it's going to be a great rugby summer's day."

Looking ahead to the future, of the Cape Town Stadium and the Cape Town Tens, an excited Du Plessis added: "We look forward to building this event with Donovan (Everitt), Bob (Skinstad), Robbie (Fleck) and the guys; they've been very innovative and that's what rugby needs, innovation - all sport needs innovation. Look at cricket, where its gone with all its innovations?

"Hopefully this will build into an annual event, which grows into something like the Hong Kong Sevens - for instance - that's our vision... and to have partners like the Cape Town Tens is a great start [for us]."

Speaking on behalf of Team Cape Town Tens, Tournament Director Ron Rutland said: "Firstly, I'd like to say how delighted we are to be part of such a momentous occasion - in the history of South African sport and, in particular, here in Cape Town,

"The team behind the Cape Town Stadium, and in fact all the stadia around the country, have done a remarkable job in proving the naysayers and doubters wrong, and I - for one - cannot wait for June 11, 2010.

"Of course, I (also) cannot wait for the first weekend of February 2010," added Rutland.

"I believe, wholeheartedly, that the Cape Town Stadium Rugby Festival will not only be a resounding success in terms of serving its primary purpose of testing the stadium's facilities and infrastructure, but it will also demonstrate that rugby has a huge part to play in the future of the Cape Town Stadium and, indeed, its surroundings."
