Caster Semenya (File)

Johannesburg - Athlete Caster Semenya was ready to write her first-year university examinations despite controversy surrounding her gender, the Sowetan reported on Friday.

Semenya has been under immense pressure since her gender was questioned after she won the 800m World Athletics Championships in Berlin, Germany in August.

She told the Sowetan she was ready for the exams which start next week.

Semenya, who is studying sports science at the University of Pretoria, also responded to a story published in Beeld on Thursday that she had told the university she was unable to write the exams.

"I've no idea what you are talking about man. Maybe you should ask the person who was quoted," she said.

"I have been studying hard and I am ready for my exams."

"I do not want to speak about what is happening in my life but I can assure you that I'm fine."

Her father Jacob Semenya was also upset.

"I am tired of these ugly reports about my child. I speak to her every day and she never mentioned she was not writing her exams," he was quoted as saying.

The International Association of Athletics Federations ordered gender tests on 18-year-old Semenya after the Berlin event, but has refused to comment on reports that it showed she was a hermaphrodite.

Several organisations have called for the axing of Leonard Chuene -- the head of Athletics SA -- for the manner in which the saga was handled.

Caster, as the song goes, "I Believe I can Fly!" I Belive I Can Touch the Sky!" Sweetie all you have to do is believe and everything else will fall into place. Remember man can only hurt you, if yoy let them. Hold your head high and Soar. In a sermon given by my pastor, once, he said as long as people are talking about you, you are okay. It's when they stop talking. is when you have to worry. So let them talk and you my dear BELIEVE YOU CAN FLY AND FLY WITH ALL YOUR MIGHT. Show the world you are bigger and better than the garbage that's printed about. I wish you all the greatness there is and I pray that God will always be a lamp unto your feet and a light unto your path. It is He that will guide you through; not man. May all God blessings be richly poured upon you. I love you and I pray for you.

Pamela10/26/2009 8:55 AM
Who do all these people think they are? Who the hell gave them the right to judge others more especially Caster in the most inhuman manner of all. Caster you are a beautiful woman & no one can tell you otherwise. God made us all in His image and only he can judge us, not man. Greater is he that is in you, than the one that is on earth. All the best my darling. You are going to excel beyond excellence. If anyone has a problem with you, then that person has a problem with us the people that love and support you 1 000 000 000 000% :). GOD BLESS YOU.

As a South African citizen, I must say I'm very proud of Caster Semenya. She's making SA proud. Instead of asking a lot of questions, lets support our girl! All the best with your examinations Caster, and may the Almighty God bless you all the way! we love you, and we are also proud of you.

its a shame that people see the world like that, people u need to get saved , we are all equal created in God;s image we are all princes and quenes in his sight to those who are saying bad things about this girl, dont u feel scared to say something like that about somebody he took time to create , if u are not iam really scared for u.As for u Semenya the world has not seen anything yet, u are a wonder and i know u will leave a legacy on this planet.may the lord richly bless u may he continue to shower u with his blessing above all may he increase ur speed as u run i pray that u rin with supernatural speed , i pray that u will always be the very best, no 1 is ur permamnet position, no weapon formed against u shall prosper.those who have caused pain in your life i pray that the lord almighty will judge them accordingly.Forgive them vengence is from the lord, this battle is not yours its the Lord.stay blessed.

I love the strength and determination this young lady has shown the "World" reguardless of the rumors. Thats the way as a man or female should be taught to run the 800meters. 3rd 200 is the most important part of the race. Not her fault she destroyed the damn field, but it is the Worlds FAULT for destroying her privacy with accusations. She give me and im sure alot of other people the strength to go on witt her life and ENJOY what makes THEM HAPPY and that is to Compete and Achieve. With life, there always will be dissapointment and doubts, But with a LOT of HARD Work, FAITH in GOD and Patients the storm will End and YOU, like I , will shine again. The World and Rules have to chane to protect us as athletes, us as employees, us as Humans. Shame on IAAF and Track and Field Government:( our youth see and hear everyhing and the lesson gathered is being different is not accepted but using drugs and showboating talent unprofessionally make money but GODS WORKof LIFE get penalize. Ms. Semenya i wish i could meet u to shake your hand and tell u best luck in life and congrats in life You earned it. And just remember when Maria mutola step onto the sceen when she was 17 andran 157 in the 800 simular spectualtions were said based off her appearance and performances .............Dhame on the people

Caster is very young and could not bear these sufferings. Whoever talks nonsense is demoralizing her future. What does she think about we South Africans? Let's bury apartheid forever then we shall reap fruitfully.
Nathi10/16/2009 3:06 PM

I pray that Caster never allows any of this to destroy her as well as her dreams. Just stay focused and believe in yourself. God will help you every step of the way. Good luck on ur studies.
sbosh10/16/2009 1:41 PM
I am sick and tired of some of the people who maintain that this poor girl cheated in presenting herself as a girl. If you were in her shoes how would you regard yourself after having been raised as a girl all your life and also embraced your feminity without the knowledge that inside your female body there were internal male organs. Please have empathy and try to supress your white superiority complex.
Susan10/16/2009 12:51 PM
I don't why understand why would you write on this blog if you're a moron and are against Caster. You've been through a lot Caster, in a very short period you've overcame a lot, right now just try to put all that's happened behind and focus on your exams, remember this your future. All the best Love!

RACISM???? LMGA.........I guess Beeld is racist and SOWETAN just media? O yea blacks can't be racist against themselves. Get your ducks in a row you "poor under priviledge soul" and stop feeling sorry for being black. GOOD LUCK WITH EXAMS CASTOR!!!
denial10/16/2009 12:05 PM
funny how everyone is still in denial here...you can say you go girl to someone who isn't a girl. as much as u believe its true, scientific evidence says otherwise. pls lets just accept the truth and move on. stop crying racism at everything! oh and im glad that caster will write exams. at least there is some focus on taking control and moving beyond what has occurred.
Noni10/16/2009 11:51 AM
Good Luck Caster! We are so proud and encouraged by your ability to remain strong and focused during such a terrible period in your life. Your attitude is commendable.

All you Fokken prawns must climb in your space pot. and simmer away to fokkof land
Confuzzed10/16/2009 11:37 AM
So am I to understand that this girl is studying sports science, but still had no idea that she had dual kit? That must be pure rubbish. They ALL cheated, and everyone looks up to her? - you guys are weird. Once they have removed her internal testes, and her testosterone levels return to normal (for women), if she wins the 800m again, I will happily eat all my words and apologise profusely - really. Until then, she cheated.
Hlope10/16/2009 11:33 AM
Asa gave her all the exam papers before hand. You go boy!!!!!!!
The cheeze moved...10/16/2009 11:21 AM
Forget the exams, get a good team of lawyers and go after Leonard and ASA, then write a book and sell the movie rights.

Sedaarato10/16/2009 11:02 AM
Since the beginning of this Caster's saga, I never wanted to believe that racism and the media are fuelling this but after the report by AFRIKAANS newspaper BEELD and the story by Sowetan, I now 100% believe that racism and the negative AFRIKAANS media want Caster, in fact all BLacks to fall into pieces. Before prinitng the article, are the media house not suppose to verify what they are about to dish to the public? I would like to suggest that all concerned Black South Africans should donate on behalf of Caster to get a powerful legal team to sue the BEELD for the defamation and dishing lies to the public. Donation can be as little as R 5.00 Caster, your courage, perseverance and tenacity to ignore the negative media report is overwhelming and encouraging to all Black South Africans. Keep it up Girl!!!!
zama10/16/2009 10:51 AM
just focus on ur studies gal and forget about the media bcoz they have bn on ur case for such a long time.ur privacy was violated by people who have hidden agenda,we r so proud of u as women and we admire ur success.

What a lady, could show most emotional people a thing or two. I am so happy for her, truly an inspiring story.

If I were Caster I would take this Saga and turn it around profitably. As she is already a household name and in demand with the likes of Oprah Show. She should open a foundation that deals with trans-sexuality and related issues. Everyone would pour in funds. She must continue to study hard and get that degree.

We all know that FIFA are the head honchos of the beautiful game. They set out laws that govern the sport and we are supposed to fall in line and follow. Now I agree that there must be rules in place for everyone to follow but what I don’t get, is how FIFA are currently strutting around like they own South Africa, says Mr Controversy.
