New York - The most valuable brands in sport are Tiger Woods, Nike, Manchester United and the Super Bowl, says Forbes.

These are the most valuable athlete, business, team and event, respectively, according to the Forbes “Fab 40”.

Athletes were ranked on endorsement income, businesses on private market value, teams on “the portion of their overall value not a result of market demographics and league”, and events on the revenue generate per day of competition.

Forbes said Tiger Woods has a brand value of $82 million, and is likely to remain the top earning athlete in 2010, even if he doesn’t hit a single golf ball.

Nike was valued at $10.7 billion. It is also the only sportswear maker to increase worldwide market share since the start of 2008, according to industry tracker Sporting Goods Intelligence.

Manchester United was valued at $270 million, pipping the New York Yankees, on $266 million.

Calling the Superbowl the most valuable sporting event is perhaps controversial everywhere except the US. Forbes points to some heavyweight figures to back its claim - $420 million generated by last year’s event in media, sponsorship, tickets and licensing revenue – “more than a typical day of the Summer Olympics and Soccer’s World Cup combined”.

True Red: Manchester United are only 2 trophies behind Liverpool when it comes to overall trophies, but when it comes to the trophies that actually matter (FA cup, Premier League, Champions League) United are ahead by 2. League Titles: Liverpool 18-18 United FA cups: Liverpool 7 - 11 United Champions League: Liverpool 5 - 3 United

En dis hoekom elke 2de poephol vir Man U skree. Hierdie elke 2de poephol glo ook dis hoekom almal vir Man U MOET skree. Boring!!!! Ek ondersteun eerder die mees gehate span in Engeland. Dis so boring om vir Man U in elk geval te skree. CAREFREE, WHEREVER WE MAY BE...

Well said Georgie Best. I mentioned to True Red previously that we were far behind in terms of the trophy cabinet. Hey it has diminished with time. So True Red LPFC will be overhauled. When MUFC does so, i would love to hear you comment.

OK, Red Red, you guys had a good run in 70s, and 80s, those years made Pool's history so glorious. And that nobody can argue about, I was a Utd supporter then, was very little, and the rivalry was huge, I think the support was split 50/50 then. But since Utd won the title from Leeds in 1992, the glory days shifted, and I'm so glad I chose right. The first game I eva watched 1977 FA Cup, LFC were favourites to win the treble, but the underdogs won, they won many supporters too, me included. 2-1, three goals in 3 minutes, Remember Keegan left Liverpool after that. After all these years Man Utd still gets that adrenalin pumping, right until the end, like against Man City the other night. just too awesome! love it!!! Win or lose.

Well done to the manc's - I always maintain that in terms of running the business side of things, they are way ahead of us. But Georgie, make no mistake, we still have more trophies & Utd are the ones playing catch up ;-)

To Guwada. He who has no sin let him cast the first stone.

SLIMJAN - ManU's net worth is still $270 bar, after debts of GBP700 bar have been deducted. Making sense?
@Guwada2/5/2010 1:59 PM
Dude, stope being a player hater, and only a chop wishes bad things upon others, respect to Tiger, I know f all bout Golf but this guy is a phenomenal athlete, for that you deserve your rewards man, Go Tiger, As for Man U, Hansie is dead right, why are they in debts then?
Little Tiger2/5/2010 1:59 PM
Even if Tiger's gold digging wife does take her half, or even if he loses everything as Guwada hopes for, he'll still make more money in a week-end thatn what you'd make in a lifetime. The guy is a legend and truely the greatest sportsmen ever. Accept that and leave his private life aside. I'm sure no man would ocmplain if he had been in Tiger's shoes.
@hansie2/5/2010 1:37 PM
Cos their assets are worth $270m more than GBP700m. er....duh! back to school Hansie.....
Guwada2/5/2010 1:13 PM
I hope tiger looses everything!
Hansie2/5/2010 1:05 PM
If United are valued at $270 million, then why are their debts at GBP700 million?
GeePMB2/5/2010 12:49 PM
Be Mrs Woods loves this news! Imagine how much she is going to get now and he can't hide any of it. What a come down, all that money and lots's of nookie to now having no nookie and the threat of losing almost all of it, no wonder he is on his yacht contemplating his marriage!!
Georgie Best2/5/2010 12:26 PM
You see Man Utd are the best at what they do, and are not commoners like some twats from Chelsea believe. They set the pace, raise the bar the rest must try to catch up. And they use their own models and money BTW.
Mfanomncane2/5/2010 11:14 AM
Where is Chelsea? bwahahahahaha Once Abramovich is gone in 3 yrs time Chelsea will go down the tubes Man. Long live the Tiger. You can't keep a tiger down,keep "hitting those bols into those holes".
