Booth: Bafana more of a unit

Johannesburg - Mathew Booth says Bafana Bafana’s camp in Brazil was very beneficial to all the players and insists that they have become closer and more of a unit.

Bafana returned this week from their month-long camp in Brazil, where they played nine matches, winning five, drawing three and losing their last game of the tour, against Santos.

“The camp was very good. It was well organised and very beneficial to all of us. Carlos Alberto Parreira (Bafana coach) is a very good coach, he has instilled discipline into the team, on and off the field. We have also developed a winning mentality while on tour, credit must go to all the technical staff and to the players.

“The responded well to the technical team’s instructions and we are a more cohesive unit now. It has brought us closer and we have become like family,” said Booth.

With Parreira set to announce his squad for the camp in Germany later today, Booth said there was no indication that the Brazilian will announce the same squad to the one that went to Brazil.

“It is difficult to know what the coach is thinking. Surely he has an idea of who he wants to select, and you can be sure it will be to the benefit of Bafana Bafana, because he is that good,” said Booth.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
