Benni: I am fit and ready

Johannesburg - Bafana Bafana striker Benni McCarthy has dispelled reports that he is overweight and unfit.

The player spoke to the Siya crew in the presence of his brother, former Kaizer Chiefs defender Jerome McCarthy, after being prohibited from attending a press conference due to what Bafana team spokesperson, Mathlomola Morake, described as “circumstances beyond their control”.

The visibly robust looking McCarthy said that he is ready to play at any time, but that he is waiting for the coach to give him the go ahead.

“As you can see I am fit and I am ready to play. Just like any other player in the team, I am training hard to keep the right levels of fitness, but even now I am ready to play and any time,” he said.

This conflicts with recent reports from Carlos Alberto Parreira and camp insiders, who have told Soccer-Laduma that McCarthy is out-of-shape and needs to work on his fitnes levels. Either way, What Bafana fans want to see is a on-form Benni McCarthy before the World Cup!

Another press conference for McCarthy has been organised for Saturday at 11:30 together with captain Aaron Mokoena.
