Johannesburg - After missing out on a spot at next year’s Fifa World Cup in Russia, SuperSport United striker Jeremy Brockie wants to take out his frustration on TP Mazembe.
United face Mazembe in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup final in Lubumbashi on Sunday afternoon.
Brockie, whose New Zealand lost to Peru on Thursday morning for a place in Russia, is hoping for a better outing this time around.
Goalless draw
The Kiwis’ striker only joined his team-mates at the airport en route to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, coming directly from South America, where his country lost 2-0. But he was not complaining after travelling through three continents.
Last week, he was in New Zealand, where his team played to a goalless draw before travelling to South America. Now, he’s on African soil.
“Obviously it is the life of an international footballer. It is always an honour to play for the country and I’m not going to complain about it,” said Brockie.
The New Zealander is on top of the scoring charts with 10 goals in this tournament. He is hoping to increase his tally and help United have an advantage going into the second leg at home on Saturday afternoon.
“The body is a bit tired and the mind is also tired, but after a few hours of good rest I should be ready. I’m looking forward to Sunday because it is a big game for the club and the country.
Hostile crowd
“Luckily, it is another big game for us and it won’t be hard to be motivated to get over the disappointment of failing to make it to Russia".
However, he said they would have to keep it tight in the first leg.
“They are a good side with some X factor players and a hostile crowd. But we have been here before, so we know what to expect in the 180 minutes.”
He emphasised the importance of scoring an away goal or two.
