Johannesburg - The last time Moruti “Babyface” Mthalane threw punches in the ring was at Durban’s Olive Convention Centre in December 2015.
He stopped Renz Rosia from the Philippines in the ninth round to retain his International Boxing Organisation (IBO) flyweight title.
On Friday night, Mthalane will get the chance to brush away the cobwebs by defending his crown against another Filipino, Genesis Libranza. The fight takes place at Wembley Indoor Arena in Turffontein, Joburg.
Mthalane is brimming with confidence and wants to prove that his time away from the sport hasn’t affected him.
“I’ve been itching for action for too long, and this is the moment that I’ve been waiting for. I’m going to prove to my fans that I’m still the best by winning this fight,” said Mthalane.
Babyface comes to the ring boasting 32 wins and two defeats in 34 professional fights. Libranza is undefeated in 11 outings as a professional campaigner.
The main fight on the undercard of the TK Boxing Promotions event will be the South African junior bantamweight championship bout between Doctor Ntsele and Sabelo Ngembinyane.
